Daedalus 30 Family Cruiser & Sea Angler

(2 votes, average 5.00 out of 5)
Daedalus30bMaking her debut at the 2010 Southampton boat show, the Daedalus 30 is a motorboat designed to meet the demands of sea anglers who also enjoy luxury family cruising. The builders are Portsmouth-based Marine Concepts, a specialist company that produces a wide range of mouldings for the Sunseeker range of superyachts. A four-year collaboration with acclaimed UK designer John Moxham has resulted in the 30ft (9.10m) boat that can sleep four, and provides a generous heads compartment, a long range fuel tank and, so they tell us, outstanding performance in poor weather.

The key to the soft ride is the dynamic hull profile, well proven from other hugely successful Moxham designs. The shape is mostly concave, with a large radius amidships but a sharp V section forward, exactly where it will drop into a wave. The spray rails are down-angled at 12 degrees for an incredibly dry ride, and there is another big radius at the stern, providing plenty of lift. This makes the Daedalus 30 quick onto the plane, and easily driven for optimum fuel economy. As such, the boat needs only a single 260hp Yanmar diesel outdrive for anticipated speeds of around 28-30 knots. A twin engine installation is also available. Daedalus30a

For angling, diving or just general enjoyment of the sea, the Daedalus 30 has a wide beam and a large aft cockpit, with high bulwarks for safety and a compact bathing platform. There is also a deep under-deck storage area that could be used as a live tank, or for stowing a tender. The wheelhouse roof has been aerodynamically shaped to deflect wind and spray away from the cockpit, and all the stainless steel handrails have been strategically placed for best effect.
