Did you know that, if you got your car driving licence on or after 01 January 1997, you are required to pass an additional driving test in order to tow a trailer with a maximum mass in excess of 750kg? And even if you are entitled to tow a boat behind your car, do you believe you are sufficiently competent to overlook expert tuition?
How about a training course in the art of towing a trailer? There are plenty of tailored tuition options available in the UK, so you can pick something with an ideal blend of practical maintenance, road craft and legal understanding.
If you think it’s unnecessary, you might want to consider some of the finer points. For instance, do you know how to set the head restraints to give best protection in the event of a crash? Do you know how to check that the trailer brakes are working before you set off? Do you know the required tyre pressures for your trailer? Or even for your car when it is towing a trailer?
If you’re unsure about any of the above, chances are there is plenty more you could learn. And even if you’re a seasoned trailer boater, you may be surprised at how much a refresher course could help.
You can find a trailer school near you with a simple internet search. Expect to pay in the region of £30 to £35 per hour.
